Family ~ "What greater thing is there for human souls than to feel that they are joined for life - to be with each other in silent unspeakable memories." ~ George Eliot

                             A Visit With Mom

                ~Hazel Mae Drake 1915-2008~

Hazel Drake was such a great lady!! She was our own "Minnie Pearl." She could just make you laugh when she laughed.  She could make you feel special no matter who you were.  She loved her family!!

Hazel was probably the #1 best cook I ever knew.  She made a breakfast into a feast. Her "butter rolls" were the best, along with her sugar cream pie, her cherry delight, banana cream pie, dumplings, biscuits, and her fried chicken.  Well, let's just say, there was nothing that could surpass what Hazel cooked!!

Hazel was a farm wife who kept her home inviting and warm.  Having grown up during the Depression, she learned an important lesson of never wasting anything.  There was always fresh canned peaches, canned tomatoes, green beans, and frozen corn in her freezer.  She gave her children, (6 total) everything they needed.  She taught her kids the meaning of responsibility, and all of her kids have shown that they learned to work hard and do their best. The work ethic of the Drake family was a model for everyone who knew them.

Hazel loved being a wife to Denver.  She was always right by his side, doing whatever was needed to make their life a success.  Hazel and Denver loved each other, loved family and loved community!  They were a great pair.

I feel so blessed to have been her daughter-in-law!  She was a grand lady!!  To have known Hazel was a gift from God and we know that if there was someone chosen to help cook up in heaven, Hazel M. Drake will be one of the special ladies wearing God's apron.

We love and miss you Hazel M. Drake!!  Thanks for loving us!!
