Our Own Quiet Place

Our Own Quiet Place - March 2012

This year we have enjoyed an unbelievable experience of travel.  We were in Washington D.C., Charleston, S.C., Savannah, GA, San Francisco, CA, Oahu, HI, and Okinawa, Japan.  We enjoyed visiting with family and seeing unbelievable sights during our journey.  We met incredible people along the way whom we never will forget.  It was an awesome experience filled with remarkable memories. We feel extremely blessed to have experienced this wonderful adventure.

When you come home from an overwhelming experience, the need to get back into a normal routine takes over.  So, you take yourself from paradise into reality.  With reality comes bills, cleaning, mowing, etc. and....you see yourself settling back into the everyday routine of life.  Normal life sometimes can feel as overwhelming as an exciting adventure, but more for the reason that it is never ending and sometimes you just need to take a break from routine.

I rather like the exciting adventures, as well as the normalcy of life.  I like the balance it gives us.  But, sometimes during a hectic day, it is nice just to find your "quiet place."  We were motivated this year to work on a project to help us find that quiet place right at home.  I had drawn inspiration from a good friend who was revamping their back yard, as well as my daughter-in-law Kim's post on Pinterest. (Yes...Pinterest is a new way of life, just like Facebook).  She had a Bohemian Garden board which made me realize that our home needs to give us a feeling of safety, peace and beauty.  It needs to provide a space where we feel like we can "get away from it all."

Our back porch area has become our own "quiet place."  We are finding that it is our favorite room.  It is our escape from reality.  This area provides beauty, peace and safety.  Everyone needs their own "quiet place."
